Yes. Sarah Palin fired the police chief who included rape kits in his law enforcement budget and hired one who would eliminate this line item. The 50 grand was four times more than the police chief had asked for a year’s worth of kits, so would have covered four years worth of rape kits for the crime victims of Wasilla.

In response to Palin’s actions in Wasilla, the Alaska State legislature passed a bill, HR270, which outlawed this practice statewide and required any law enforcement agency investigating a rape to pay for the investigation, including the rape kit.
