Although I am severely depressed that during this historical moment when the son of an immigrant has been elected to be the first president of color, at the same time the people of California have decided to take steps backwards by denying the right for gay, lesbian and transgender people to marry. I haven't experienced this type of political ecstasy and depression at the same exact moment before. I have hope, and I also have despair. Thank goodness I am in a blue state.
